Back to Jackson – song #3

Verse 1:
A blanket of snow covered everything
And softened the edges of the town
The sun rose a little slower
And then the people gathered ’round

I was just a visitor
Without a face, without a name
That place knew something about me though
That I never could explain

Chorus:
I’m going back…back to Jackson
I’m cutting through…whatever’s in my way
I’m going back…back to Jackson Hole
And I don’t know how long I’m gonna stay

Verse 2:
A broke-down motel is where I slept
The white sheets were perfectly pressed
By the pretty young girls in aprons
Who held the secrets about the West

As they danced in cabin coffee shops
And spent a little of their pay
on their last pack of cigarettes
at least this is what they’d say

Chorus:
I’m going back…back to Jackson
I’m cutting through…whatever’s in my way
I’m going back…back to Jackson Hole
And I don’t know how long I’m gonna stay

Bridge:
I put my roots down in the east
but that air is hard to breathe
and like Manifest Destiny
The big sky is calling me

Verse 3:
Driving away from what I’ve been
The roadways leave new scars
Like the Tetons that sit above this town
Hoisting angels to the stars

Chorus:
I’m going back…back to Jackson
I’m cutting through…whatever’s in my way
I’m going back…back to Jackson Hole
And I don’t know how long I’m gonna stay
